Capital One Bank Outage

Capital One Bank Outage

On January 16, 2025, Capital One experienced a significant technical outage due to issues with a third-party vendor. This disruption affected various services, including account access, deposits, and payment processing for consumer, small business, and commercial accounts. The bank acknowledged the problem on social media, stating they were actively collaborating with the vendor to resolve the issue and restore services.

By early afternoon, nearly 1,700 outage reports were logged, with customers expressing frustration over unpaid wages and difficulties accessing their accounts. Capital One apologized for the inconvenience and assured customers they were working diligently to address the situation.

The bank anticipated that services would be restored throughout the day, with the majority of issues resolved by Friday morning. Customers were advised to monitor their accounts and verify that all transactions were processed correctly once services resumed.

This incident follows a recent lawsuit filed by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) against Capital One, alleging that the bank misled customers about higher interest rate account options, potentially causing them to miss out on $2 billion in interest payments. Capital One has expressed its intention to contest the lawsuit vigorously.
